Settle into the sands of one of San Diego's most beloved beaches and watch a classic film under the open sky at the legendary Hotel del Coronado — the same storied resort where Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis filmed "Some Like It Hot" in 1958. This is more than a movie night; it's a golden-era experience wrapped in sea breeze, starlight, and over 135 years of California charm. Whether you're visiting Coronado for the first time or you're a returning guest, this is the kind of evening you'll be talking about long after the credits roll.
What visitors love about this place
“This is a very classic and historic hotel in San Diego. Even if you don’t plan on staying here as a guest is a good place to visit while you are in the city.”

“The hotel just celebrated 130 years. Everything is pricey but the food is excellent and the staff helpful.”
“Even if you aren't staying, this place is great for an afternoon, a few drinks, and a lunch or early dinner. Pricey, but worth the opportunity. Even walking through the lobby is a great experience.”

“If you are visiting San Diego, you must stop and visit the Del. Beautiful hotel with lots of cool restaurants and speciality shops to see. The beach outside is one of the best in the city.”

Lovely hotel and location. After spending 4 days at this hotel it is truly something special. The grounds are beautiful, so many restaurants, shops, and snack locations right on the property. The taco hut and beachside bar was our favourite. We loved the coffee and pastries at the quick serve every morning. The beach is lovely. You can walk forever down the beach. The hotel is located between two army bases which you can walk to each way. Steps outside of the hotel is the strip of Coronado. So many restaurants and shops to walk to. Rooms. This is tricky as there are so many different room types to pick from. Some rooms have views looking at the other buildings. We choose to stay in The Views building, no ocean view/front based on other reviews. Upon checkin online you can actually request rooms which is so nice. We chose the 6th floor 6605 room. So glad we did this! Upon walking in there was a floor to ceiling window overlooking the ocean, beautiful tile floors leading into the modern bathroom. Lots of space/storage in the actual bedroom with a long bed and couch. Another floor to ceiling window overlooking the ocean. The reason it’s not an ocean view room is because the balcony is off to the side facing another hotel building. Since we were on the 6th floor we were overlooking the top of the other building and could actually see and hear the ocean from our chairs. Very happy with the room! Big shoutout for the incredible service. Our flight was cancelled and rescheduled a day earlier. The reception at the desk completely understood and helped us out. All of the service throughout the hotel from receptions, shops, restaurants to housekeeping were fantastic. I would absolutely recommend and stay here again.
Wow! This was an incredible two night stay. The history of this hotel jumps out at you as you approach the building. We were warmly welcomed at the front desk by Blair. She found the perfect room for us with a balcony view of the beautiful courtyard in the Victorian building. She also recognized my wife's birthday with a box of delicious chocolates. The room in the Victorian building was newly renovated. Everything looked brand new including the furniture, TV, bathroom, all the doors and beautiful moldings, and balcony furniture. And it was spotless. There's a K-Cup coffee maker and mini fridge in the room The location right on the beach is amazing. There is seating available overlooking the beach as well as beach chairs for use on the beach. There is a paved path along the beach. The common area of the hotel facing the ocean is beautiful! All the restaurants and shops are located in this area with a focus on outdoor space. There are many food outlets. It's expensive as you would expect at a luxury resort. But there are some reasonably priced options also at the taco shack on the beach and the market that sells breakfast items, sandwiches and pizza.
I was highly recommended by locals to check out Hotel del Coronado during Christmas and I am very happy I went! Their Christmas displays throughout the entire property is amazing. There is a historical and luxurious feel to the entire space and it is extremely well maintained. My only tip is if you are ubering to this spot, to uber to a nearby location then walk over as traffic can be quite congested as cars pile into the front entrance.
I was in Oceanside for the week (in December), but flew into SAN, and decided to splurge on the Del for my last night in the area. Valet was $79 and room was about $450 after all taxes/fees. I enjoyed all the holiday decorations, it was fun and festive. The location is pretty incredible (given the time of year, didn't get to enjoy all that much). The wood structure/architecture and history was impressive. On the other hand, aspects of it also felt like a Vegas resort, which sort of clashed with the overall vibe. My room experience was subpar for such an expensive stay. My room (34013) was above some ballroom, and when I returned from dinner at 7 pm, had to listen to blasting club music/deep bass until 10 pm. Room had zero view. There was no body wash in the dispenser. Surprisingly, the room door doesn't latch shut on its own power either. You need to manually pull it. This is a pretty bad security issue, I can see people leaving their room in a hurry, and the door is just ajar. From what I could tell, you don't need a room key at all to access room common areas. Overall I'm glad I got to see the property all gussied up for the holidays, but given the stay experience for the price, unlikely I'll be back in the future.
Disclaimer we did not stay at the hotel. Rather we visited for food, explore the I'm property, and to go ice skating. The views are incredible and the hotel is quite glamorous. You can tell it's not a cheap place to stay, the minute you walk in. Unfortunately it was absolutely overrun and overcrowded. We went during Christmas week when additional crowds are expected but it was an absolute mad house. I was very surprised there was very little to no staff in the main lobby, helping control traffic or guiding people on where to go to help ease the congestion. I felt like I needed to take a bath in hand sanitizer as soon as I walked outside. As for the ice skating, it was packed. While I recognize it was sold out, there were far too many people on the rink for its size. And sticking with their theme there was only two attendants on the ice and they had little to no control over what was going on. That or they just didn't care. Again, I can't speak to the rooms themselves, but if you're looking for somewhere to celebrate the holidays, I'd look for somewhere that's less crowded, more organized
